Paper Toads are waiting to be rescued after a flat hero drops into the brothers' world in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, the AlphaDream crossover Nintendo released in 2016. Fights are trios: Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario each take a turn under timed-hit rules. Sticker Star is a different paper outing, and Bowser's Inside Story is a different brothers game.
Out on the field, the paper hero folds into a shape the brothers can throw or ride across a gap. Waves of enemies telegraph a stomp, a hammer, or a dodge, and a missed press spoils the blow. Rounding up the scattered Toads runs through the areas as more than a motive mentioned in a cutscene.
Paired specials return as short button games, and some of them pull the third fighter in. Copy foes and papercraft set pieces put flat layers against the rounded brothers. A meeting between Bowser and a paper double supplies a large share of the jokes.
AlphaDream developed the crossover, and Nintendo published it. The journey is over only after the rescue thread and the trio battles have both been carried through.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
First developer on the RAWG card: AlphaDream.
