Geno joins Mario, Bowser, and Peach in a turn-based party in Super Mario RPG, the story Square built with Nintendo. Smithy's gang shatters the Star Road, and Mallow the cloud-creature fills out a group that should not share a battle menu.
Timed hits reward a button press as the weapon lands, so the turn-based fight still asks for rhythm. Bowser as a party member, rather than the last boss, is the casting joke the alliance depends on.
Square and Nintendo released the game in 1996 on the Super Nintendo. A separate remake from 2023 has its own page in this catalog, and Smithy's story here is the original party.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
