The Beanbean Kingdom stays in place beside a new troop-command tale in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, the AlphaDream remake Nintendo published in 2017. The main book rebuilds the earlier Superstar Saga for the handheld. The added side story lets you give orders to soldiers you have recruited.
Mario and Luigi still share timed jumps and hammer strikes, both on the map and in a fight. Special moves are short input games tucked inside the turn, and a sloppy press weakens them. A stolen voice and a wandering villain remain the spine of the Beanbean plot.
Captain Goomba and the rest of the troops take a grid you direct, closer to issuing orders than to performing the button prompts yourself. Enemies you defeat can be folded into the squad. That mode runs next to the brothers' chapters instead of erasing them.
AlphaDream handled the remake and Nintendo published the package. Anyone who only wants the Beanbean journey can stay on it, while the troop missions sit there as a second campaign.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
First developer on the RAWG card: AlphaDream.
