Beck absorbs a boss's power after the fight, and Mighty No. 9 is Keiji Inafune's Kickstarter project with Inti Creates, widely received as a troubled successor to Mega Man. Dashing through a stunned robot absorbs its weapon, which is Beck's answer to a weakness chain.
Dashing through a weakened robot finishes it and grants a new weapon. The stages promise that old weakness-chain structure, and the troubled production became part of the game's reputation.
The 2016 release did reach the successor console and the glasses-free handheld. Players judging the dash-absorb loop were also judging the long, public road that led to those stages.
