A Pikachu who talks and drinks coffee partners with Tim Goodman in Detective Pikachu, the Creatures case file Nintendo published in 2016. The work happens in Ryme City, where people and Pokémon share a more urban life than a trainer's road. What you are holding is that handheld mystery, and the later film does not stand in for the cases.
Scenes are walked, witnesses are questioned, and Pikachu's senses cover clues Tim cannot see. Raising the right topic opens the next lead. The partner is gruff, fond of coffee, and often a step ahead of his human.
Each district of Ryme City hosts a problem tied to a different Pokémon. Getting ahead means explaining the case, not collecting a badge from a gym. A notebook of clues keeps the interviews from turning into one long corridor.
Creatures developed the city and the partnership, and Nintendo published the cartridge. A chapter closes when the right conclusion is presented, while Tim's missing father keeps drawing the separate cases into one line.
