Game Freak's Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition keeps Pikachu outside the ball and follows the anime more closely than Red and Green. Japan received this special edition of the first generation in 1998, and it stays inside Kanto.
Pikachu walks behind the trainer, and Jessie and James appear in scenes the earlier pair staged differently. Gyms still run from Pewter City toward the Indigo Plateau.
Red and Green, and the international Red and Blue pair, are the originals. Yellow dresses that same Kanto journey in the anime's Pikachu and a handful of altered encounters.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
