Satoshi Tajiri spent his childhood collecting insects and later asked Game Freak to turn that habit into Pokemon Red. Kanto's gym circuit is the spine of that walk, from a starter choice to a rival who refuses to stay behind.
Shigeru Miyamoto championed the project inside Nintendo after Tajiri demonstrated a link cable that moved creatures from one handheld to another. The cartridge therefore shipped as a pair: Red and Blue (Green in Japan) hold different wild encounters so friends have a reason to trade.
Ken Sugimori drew the Kanto creatures, and Junichi Masuda wrote the route music that plays while a trainer walks from Pallet Town toward the Indigo Plateau. Eight gyms, a rival, and a team built around a starter defined the loop. The MissingNo glitch and the Elite Four became playground folklore almost immediately.
A following Pikachu arrived later in Yellow. FireRed and LeafGreen rebuilt the same Kanto journey for a newer handheld, and those remakes are separate pages here. Collectors still mean this cartridge when they say they started in Pallet Town.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
