Hudson Soft took White Bomberman off the single-screen bomb grid and sent him walking across a world map in Bomberman Quest, a 1998 Game Boy Color journey. Monsters occupy pockets of land, and the bombs he finds do not share one blast. A fight is decided by which effect he brought, whether the charge homes, punches, or sits in place until the fuse ends.
Encounters stay small enough to read on the handheld screen. The creature closes distance while the timer runs, and a poorly chosen bomb wastes the only shot that would have reached it. New bombs turn up along the roads, so later fields assume a kit the opening hills never offered.
Towns break the hiking, and a sealed path often waits until the matching bomb is clipped to his pack. Hudson Soft keeps the round face and the bright danger, while the job is to finish the route rather than to outlast a rival bomber.
Maze cartridges live on soft blocks, shrinking arenas, and a last survivor. Progress on this quest is the ground already crossed, the creatures already beaten, and the strange bombs hanging from his belt.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
The series list above is the whole family set in this catalog.
