Contests, secret bases, and Groudon's drought define Pokemon Ruby, Game Freak's Hoenn journey from 2002 and one half of a matched pair. Sapphire is the other half, Emerald is the third version, and Omega Ruby on Nintendo 3DS is a later remake.
Groudon waits while the region's story bakes under drought. Contest ribbons and a base you decorate give the walk something besides gym badges and a rival on Route 103.
Mixing records with a friend shares bases and contest data. The 3DS remake retells Hoenn much later, so this cartridge is the original ruby-version adventure with its own legendary.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
