You and a chosen partner share the guild halls of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness, and the plot turns on a time traveler. Chunsoft shipped that story in 2008, with Nintendo publishing the cartridge. The hero wakes in Treasure Town as a Pokémon who used to be human, then signs on at Wigglytuff's guild.
Floors rebuild themselves on every visit, and the pair take turns under a belly clock that punishes a long stay. Wild Pokémon can join on the way back to the stairs. After the main case, special episodes open as side stories you can start from the guild.
Grovyle is bound into the time-travel thread rather than parked as a random boss. Explorers of Time is the companion version, with the same backbone and a different set of recruits. The earlier Rescue Team pair uses another guild entirely, and Explorers of Sky is a later, larger release.
Your partner talks through the journey and fights on the same turn order as the hero. A defeat on a deep floor can dump the team outside without the item they came to fetch, so supplies matter. That partnership is the spine Chunsoft wrote around the amnesia and the crisis arriving from the future.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
