Two Pokémon wake without a clear past at the opening of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, the Spike Chunsoft journey Nintendo released in 2015. A Connection Orb later calls in a huge roster drawn from across the series. Identity, and a threat aimed at Pokémon as a whole, drive the plot well past a simple errand to find one missing friend.
Floors are winding grids where items and rooms full of enemies make a straight line unlikely. Moves placed on the buttons have to cover the types ahead, or a ghostly foe becomes a wall you cannot answer. The partner stays in those corridors, and the talking keeps the lost memory from playing as an empty excuse.
Famous allies arrive through the Connection Orb once the story's conditions are met, so the team can grow far past the starting pair. A town between the corridors is where jobs are accepted and supplies are set down. Later chapters widen the danger and start asking who the pair were before they woke up.
Spike Chunsoft built the dungeon rules, and Nintendo published the handheld game. A team that falls is sent back with a penalty, and the finish comes only after that question of identity has been faced.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
