MercurySteam remade Metroid II as Metroid: Samus Returns, and the 2017 Nintendo 3DS hunt adds a melee counter to Samus's arsenal. SR388 is still a nest, and the Metroid quota still has to be cleared one creature at a time.
The counter freezes a lunging enemy so a charged shot can follow. Aeion abilities, including a scan pulse and lightning armor, mark the new tools on the map.
The Game Boy original was a spare downward descent. This remake keeps that hunt and gives Samus a parry the old cartridge never had.
