Super Mario Odyssey sends Mario across kingdoms collecting moons, with a hat named Cappy doing the possessing. Capturing a creature replaces Mario's moves until Cappy lets go.
Yoshiaki Koizumi's Nintendo EPD team built it for Switch as a return to the sandbox spirit of Mario 64, but each kingdom is a city or a biome rather than a painting. Capturing a Bullet Bill, a dinosaur, or a taxi changes the move set for as long as the capture lasts.
New Donk City brings Pauline back as a mayor and stages a festival once enough moons are found. The darker side of the moon and the darker side of the mushroom kingdom are postgame spaces for players who thought the brochure was finished.
It is not a port of Sunshine, Galaxy, or 64. Those remain their own pages. This one is Super Mario Odyssey.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
