Mario Kart 8 Deluxe reopened the Wii U racer on Switch and replaced the weak battle mode with balloons and dedicated arenas. Inklings join the grid, and battle mode finally has arenas built for balloons.
Nintendo EPD shipped it with Inklings on the roster, a smarter item system for computer racers, and every DLC character from the Wii U version included. Gold Mario and a second set of gold parts reward high rankings instead of a single limited-time cart.
Years later the Booster Course Pass added cups built from older Mario Kart tracks, which turned one disc into a long-running online lobby. The physics, the anti-gravity sections, and the 200cc class still belong to the Mario Kart 8 design, but the battle arenas and the extra cups are why this edition is not the same product.
The Wii U Mario Kart 8 has its own page. Booster Course cups and the rebuilt battle arenas are the reasons Deluxe stayed in the dock for years.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
