History

Cut Man's shears and the Yellow Devil's shifting blocks open Mega Man, a shorter and harder robot-master gauntlet than the sequel that made the formula famous. Elec Man, Ice Man, Fire Man, Bomb Man, and Guts Man complete a six-boss loop with no slide and no charge shot.

Capcom's first NES set is the one later games are softening and extending. Dr. Wily and Dr. Light are already the plot, and the Yellow Devil is the fortress hazard players still cite.

The cartridge arrived in 1987 and opens the original line on Nintendo's 8-bit console. The six masters and the Devil's blocks are the first gauntlet, before the sequel's eight-boss menu.
