History

Tilting cockpits roll with the jet in After Burner, Yu Suzuki's Sega arcade machine. Missiles and a machine gun clear waves of fighters, and the deluxe cabinet physically banks when the plane banks.

Suzuki's coin-op dates to 1987, and the public identity of the game is that tilting cabinet. Afterburner speed and lock-on missiles belong to the machine that rolled under the player.

Home ports exist, including an NES edition, but they cannot be the machine that moved under the player. The jet, the lock-on missiles, and the rolling seat are the arcade facts.
