History

The World Tree is dying in Faxanadu, the side-view action role-playing game from Hudson Soft and Falcom. Gear stalls and a password save break up the climb, and the elf hero's quest is the 1987 NES cult adventure.

Dwarf towns and fountains punctuate the vertical road. Magic and a sword share space with jumping.

The title echoes Falcom's Xanadu. Hudson Soft's NES quest is still cited among the deeper action role-playing games on that console.
