An extra cloud world waits past the mine-cart lines in Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, the stereoscopic port Nintendo published in 2013. The Wii game underneath is Retro Studios' work. Rocket barrels and the demand to hold a run through spikes remain, and the Super Nintendo Country is a different set of levels.
Donkey Kong slams the ground, rolls, and puffs a breath of air to uncover bananas. Once Diddy is found he rides on Kong's back and grants a short hover. A lot of worlds close on a cart or a barrel run that punishes any hesitation.
Cloud platforms are the plainest addition on this cartridge. Depth shows most in the foreground props and in the long drops. A pit during a cart ride offers no gentle landing, which is why balloons and spare lives matter on those rails.
Nintendo published the handheld edition, Retro Studios' stages plus that added world. Hidden pieces and the K-O-N-G letters still sit off the obvious path for anyone chasing a complete set.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
