Electroplankton is a music toy, an interactive album by Toshio Iwai that Nintendo published in 2006. There is no score to beat and no stage to clear. The creatures answer the microphone, the stylus, and the closing of the lid.
Hanenbow sends bouncing bodies across leaves, and the angle of a leaf changes the note. Tracy follows lines you draw and leaves a glowing path of sound. Lumiloop is a set of rings you spin so tones can stack.
Other creatures in the set listen for a voice or a clap, and one of them answers when the lid shuts. You perform a piece rather than win it. Iwai designed them as instruments.
Nintendo published the album as a cartridge played by touch and noise. A favorite creature is worth revisiting, because there is no final boss to reach. Silence, a hard tap, or a shut lid can all change the piece.
