History

The familiar girders open Donkey Kong, and after four stages the game becomes a puzzle of flips and handstands. Nintendo's Game Boy release from 1994 is a separate work from the 1981 arcade cabinet and from Donkey Kong Country.

Pauline waits above the first construction site, then Mario hunts keys and switches with a handstand jump. A triple jump and a flip off a wire are the tools those later worlds demand.

The 1981 cabinet ends once the girders are clear. Country is Rare's side-scroller about another Kong, while this cartridge continues into puzzle rooms.
