Pre-rendered fur and a mine-cart ride define Donkey Kong Country, Rare's jungle where Diddy covers ground the big ape cannot. Rambi the rhino, Expresso the ostrich, and other animal buddies change the speed and the attack of a stage.
Rare and Nintendo shipped the pre-rendered look as a Super Nintendo showcase. Barrels, rope swings, and the mine cart are the set pieces, and King K. Rool's Kremlings are the army in the way.
The game arrived in 1994 and restarted the ape as a platform-game lead after years of cameo duty. Rare's first Donkey Kong Country is the cartridge those mine carts and that rhino belong to.
