History

Wildebeest gorge turns a stampede into a platform test in Disney's The Lion King, Virgin's difficult adaptation of Simba's life. Young Simba's roar and the adult Simba's pounce are different move sets, and the gorge is the stage players warn each other about.

Virgin built the film's timeline as a platformer, from the presentation of the cub through the later fights. Scar's shadow sits over the story, but the difficulty is in the jumps and the animal hazards.

Genesis and Super Nintendo copies led the release in 1994, with the wildebeest run as the notorious test. The shift from cub Simba to adult Simba is the spine of those 16-bit carts.
