History

Vaati splits one hero into four in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, packed by Nintendo and Capcom in 2002 beside A Link to the Past. Later DS and Nintendo 3DS releases revisited that four-hero idea.

Vaati splits Link, and friends each take a color to pull switches a solo hero cannot. The original packaging was a bonus beside that port, not a standalone console epic.

Later revisits keep the four-sword idea on new hardware. A switch that needs more than one Link is the multiplayer joke.
