History

LucasArts spun podracing out of The Phantom Menace as STAR WARS: Episode I Racer. Anakin's podracer and Sebulba's larger engine share tracks full of tusken fire and falling rock, and a boost melts the engines if it is held too long.

Nintendo 64 and PC versions are the main 1999 releases. The Game Boy Color cart is a much simpler spinoff, without the same engine-heat tension or the wide anti-gravity courses.

Repairing a pod between races spends the winnings on better parts. The film's Boonta Eve idea is the license; the heat meter and the part shop are the game's own loop.
