History

Dimps and Sonic Team built the first Sonic for that handheld as Sonic Advance, a platformer from 2001 where you switch among a small cast at high speed. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy each change a route.

It is a new handheld Sonic, not a shrunken Genesis cartridge. Loops still do the famous work, now with that extra cast beside them.

Switching characters is the reason to replay a zone. The Advance line starts with this group.
