History

Pairing two cards is the magic of Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, a launch castle Konami shipped in 2001 with Nathan Graves inside. Japan sold it as Akumajo Dracula: Circle of the Moon, outside the usual numbering.

Nathan Graves combines two cards for a spell while exploring that launch castle. The card pairs are the system, not a soul steal from a later entry.

Launch timing is part of its story, because it was there when the handheld arrived. The Japanese title sits outside the numbered line many players expected.
