History

Atlus's Shin Megami Tensei walks a demon-haunted Tokyo after the missiles fall. This Super Famicom role-playing game from 1992 descends from the Megami Tensei books and Famicom games, and alignment shapes a bleak apocalypse.

Law, chaos, and a neutral path change which demons will negotiate and which ending the ruins allow. A recruited demon can be fused into a new ally at a cathedral terminal.

A Game Boy Advance reissue later carried that Tokyo to a handheld. The Super Famicom original is where this post-apocalyptic alignment system took the form players still cite.
