History

Electronic Arts opened Desert Strike on the Genesis in 1992, a helicopter campaign inspired by contemporary desert warfare. An Apache-style gunship takes missions from a map, and fuel and armor limit how many tanks a single outing can burn.

The Super Nintendo version ports that isometric mission map. Co-pilots winch survivors while the cannon and the missiles have separate ammunition, so a noisy approach can leave the chopper dry.

A Game Boy and a later Game Boy Advance edition shrink the same war. The isometric map and the winch are the campaign's identity, born on the Genesis before those other carts.
