Enix's DRAGON QUEST V is famous for a marriage, a playable generation, and monsters you can recruit. This Super Famicom role-playing game from 1992 had no official English release until the Nintendo DS remake.
The hero grows from a child beside his father into an adult who chooses a bride, and the children can later fight. A tamed monster fills a party slot the way a human ally would.
The DS remake finally put an official English script on that family saga. The Super Famicom cartridge is the first version of the wedding and the recruitable monsters.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
