History

Crystal shards hide on every planet Kirby visits in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. HAL Laboratory's Nintendo 64 platformer, released in 2000, lets two inhaled powers fuse, so a bomb-spark mix or a stone-cutter mix becomes the key.

Ribbon carries the shattered crystal while Dark Matter hops worlds. Pop Star is only the first stop; later planets change which fusion opens the door.

Combining powers is the puzzle the shards are counting. A player who treats every inhale as a simple replacement, the way earlier Kirby games allowed, will leave half the crystal behind.
