Yo-kai Watch

A wristwatch that reveals invisible spirits is the whole invitation of Yo-kai Watch, Level-5's 2013 phenomenon built around Whisper and Jibanyan. You befriend yo-kai, then rotate a wheel of them during battle instead of choosing from a fixed list. The game was a huge hit in Japan and later reached players in the west on the handheld.

Whisper fills the role of a fussy butler who explains each haunting. Jibanyan is a cat spirit with a very narrow set of obsessions, and he is usually among the first fighters placed on the wheel. Everyday streets hide the spirits causing small troubles, and the lens makes them visible enough to talk to, feed, or fight.

Stopping the wheel on the right beat lines up a Soultimate technique. Food, mood, and luck decide whether a defeated spirit agrees to come along, so the same one may refuse a second time. Fresh districts, and a spirit world past them, open as the requests accumulate.

Level-5 designed the watch, the roster of medals, and the light daily errands. The loop is to wander, befriend, and spin that wheel, settling whatever has been bothering the people on the street.
