A boy and a shape-changing dog cross fabricated worlds in Secret of Evermore. Square's Redmond studio developed this action role-playing game in 1995, outside Japan, and the cartridge was not released there.
Alchemy mixes ingredients into spells, and the dog can become a beast that soaks a hit the boy would dodge. Podunk, a prehistoric jungle, and an antique marketplace are among the regions the pair walk.
Secret of Mana's real-time attacks are the model, translated by the Redmond team. Because the quest was designed outside Japan and never shipped there, it stands as Square's American Super Nintendo experiment.
