History

The SV-001 tank and a very small squad open METAL SLUG. Nazca's 1996 Neo Geo run-and-gun launched the series, with chunky vehicles and Marco and Tarma against General Morden's rebellion.

A grenade arc, a hostage who tosses you a weapon, and a vehicle you can lose in one bad turn are the systems. The animation's bulk is the style: rifles, jeeps, and a boss that fills the screen without becoming a polygon showcase.

Later numbered missions added more soldiers and wilder vehicles. This first board is Morden's debut, the tank's debut, and Nazca's debut of the whole joke.
