Capcom revived arcade one-on-one fighting with Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (1991) and a six-button layout. Ryu's hadouken, Chun-Li's spinning kick, and Guile's sonic boom each demand their own motion, and blocking is a deliberate hold.
The World Warrior roster, from E. Honda to Dhalsim, defined the match people copied. A round is still best of three, and a dizzy foe can be punished if the special move comes out clean.
The Super Nintendo port became a landmark home version of that roster. Six face buttons on the pad finally matched the cabinet's punches and kicks.
