You play a murdered man's ghost in Avenging Spirit (1991), and the only durable skin is a body that still belongs to someone else. Jaleco made the arcade original, and the Game Boy version is by C.P. Brain. Gangsters killed him and kidnapped his girlfriend, so the spirit overlaps an enemy and inherits that enemy's jump and weapon.
Step out of the host and a spirit meter drains until another body is caught. A gunner, a high jumper, and a slow bruiser answer different hallways, and a slain host throws the ghost back into open air. Restorative pickups sit in the stages, which means you want to be wearing someone when you reach them.
City streets, rooftops, a factory, and the syndicate's base make up the route. Finding the right keys changes whether the girlfriend can be reached before the finish; miss them and the ending plays without her. The handheld version keeps the possession, softens some of the cabinet's harsher timing, and remains an official Jaleco release.
The body currently worn is the entire move set. No permanent upgrade retires that choice, because the next corridor may want a different host. Both the arcade premise and the Game Boy stages are built on the swap.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
None in this catalog yet.
No wider family is grouped for this title beyond the series list.
