History

Michel Ancel and Ubisoft moved Rayman into 3D in Rayman 2: The Great Escape, and the Nintendo 64 edition is among the best regarded. A pirate prison opens the journey, which already separates it from the original side-view Rayman.

Globox, walking shells, and a handful of lum creatures give the floating islands someone to talk to. Rayman's fist still flies on a tether, now aimed in a 3D space of swamps, canopies, and a slave-ship hall.

The 1999 design is a different game from the first Rayman's drawn levels. Players who remember only the side-view chase are not remembering this escape from the pirate fleet.
