Konami drove a jeep behind enemy lines in Jackal (1986), a mission also called Top Gunner. The view is overhead, and the point is to load prisoners and carry them out to a waiting helicopter.
A mounted gun and tossed grenades clear the barracks while the jeep stops to take captives aboard. Leave a prisoner behind and the rescue, which is the whole sortie, fails.
The NES version is a port of that overhead arcade shooter. The same jeep, the same pickup, and the same escape helicopter define the cartridge.
