History

EA Sports named the soccer annual FIFA 2000 for the season ahead and shipped that box in 1999, beside console and PC copies. A Game Boy Color edition put the same season's clubs into a pocket match.

You still choose a side, push a tiny squad up the pitch, and take a set piece before the half ends. The handheld field cannot copy a television broadcast, so the tactics stay simple and the matches stay short.

Collectors file the cartridge with the sports line from that shipping season, even though the title looks one year further on. It is the pocket FIFA of that cycle, built for quick halves rather than a full broadcast presentation.
