History

Wireframe traders and wanted ratings fill Elite, the open space game David Braben and Ian Bell created on the BBC Micro. A Cobra ship docks at stations, buys cargo, and risks Thargoid encounters when the rating climbs.

The 1984 computer original is where that trading loop began. Braben and Bell fit a galaxy of stations into a machine with very little memory, using wireframe ships instead of painted scenes.

A Famicom edition came later and did not invent the design. Elite did not begin on Nintendo hardware, and the BBC Micro trading game is the one the name refers to.
