History

That laughing dog mocks a miss in Duck Hunt, Nintendo's light-gun game of ducks and clay pigeons. The Zapper aims at the sky, a clay round can follow the birds, and the cartridge shipped with a huge number of NES bundles in the light-gun era, with the 1984 bundles packed beside the console.

Two ducks or one duck change the round. Missing on purpose is how players first met the dog's grin.

Nintendo packed it with many consoles, so the dog became a shared joke. Clay pigeons are the other target beside the flock.
