Flapping balloons and a hungry fish define Balloon Fight (1985), Nintendo's duel that owes an obvious debt to Joust. Popping a rival's balloons drops them toward the water, and the fish waits for anyone who falls in.
Balloon Trip mode drops the rival fighters for a scrolling course of sparks. The flaps still keep the player aloft, but the goal becomes a long survival rather than a duel.
Nintendo kept both the Joust-like combat and that spark course on one cartridge. The fish, the popped balloons, and Balloon Trip's sparks are the two ways the cart is played.
