History

Victorian mercenaries fight through a corrupted Britain in The Chaos Engine, The Bitmap Brothers' moody shooter sold in the US as Soldiers of Fortune. Two guns-for-hire share the screen, and the machine of the title is what has twisted the alleys.

The Amiga original dates to 1993, with the brown-and-brass look already in place. A partner can be a friend or a computer ally, and the levels are mazes of gates and monsters rather than a straight trench.

A Super Nintendo port exists of that Victorian science-fiction world. Soldiers of Fortune is the American name, and the Bitmap Brothers' Amiga design is the source.
