Several licenses share the name ALIEN³, spun from the film and published by LJN, and they are not one shared design. Ripley's prison colony supplies the creature and the setting, while each machine got its own stages.
The Genesis version earned the stronger reputation among those licenses. The Super Nintendo game is a separate design, with its own maps, rather than a straight copy of that Genesis cart.
A 1993 film tie-in boom produced this split, and the NES and Game Boy boards sit in the same crowded name. LJN's label covers the licenses, but playing one of them does not teach the layout of the others.
