History

Descending invaders and destructible bunkers define Space Invaders (1978), the Taito game designed by Tomohiro Nishikado. A mystery saucer crosses overhead for bonus points while the formation steps down toward the cannon.

Nishikado's march helped make arcade games a mass business. The bunkers wear away under both the aliens' bombs and the player's own shots, so cover is temporary.

The NES cart is one of many later ports of that formation. Taito's original march, the saucer, and the bunkers are the game, and the home cartridge is a later carrier.
