History

Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde chase the dot-eater in Pac-Man, Toru Iwatani's maze for Namco. A power pellet turns the chase around for a few seconds, and the fruit is a bonus between the pellets.

Namco's arcade craze dates to 1980, and Iwatani's design is the public identity of the yellow shape. The four ghosts, not a console debut, are what the name meant first.

The Famicom port came years later. Wakawaka corridors and the ghosts are the cabinet's phenomenon, and the home board is a later carrier of that craze.
