History

Bob Whitehead designed Activision's Atari 2600 cartridge Boxing (1980), a two-player bout from the company's early sports line. Two fighters seen from above trade punches until one drops.

A glove extended at the right moment scores, and the crowd is a simple border around the ring. Whitehead's Activision sports carts favored this kind of small, readable contest.

The 2600 ring is the original bout. A later handheld edition under a plain boxing name looks back at that Activision cartridge.
