History

Mike LeRoi crosses between Liveside and Deadside in Acclaim's Shadow Man, a 1999 adaptation of the Valiant comic. The Nintendo 64 is among the platforms, and the two worlds do not play as the same kind of place.

Liveside is a grim Louisiana of bayous and a bar, while Deadside is a corpse-strewn afterworld of temples. A mask changes LeRoi into the Shadow Man, and dark souls collected in the afterworld raise his strength.

The comic's voodoo hero is the lead, not an original soldier dropped into a maze. Switching at a gate between the bayou and Deadside is the structure of the quest.
