History

Blood codes unlock the red pixels in Mortal Kombat 2 on the Super Nintendo, reversing the first home version's sweat substitute. Kitana's fans and Kung Lao's hat join a roster much wider than the original arcade cast.

Midway's sequel reached the Super Nintendo in 1993 with that code available to players who wanted the arcade's gore back. Friendships and babalities sit beside the older finishing moves, so the tone is broader than a single fatality.

The widened roster is the other half of the news. Kitana, Mileena, and Kung Lao are reasons to pick the sequel even before the code is entered.
