History

Takashi Tokita directed Live A Live as chapters that refuse to share a century. Square released that anthology on the Super Famicom in 1994, long before an official English script existed.

A prehistoric wrestler, the ninja Oboromaru, a kung-fu pupil, the gunman Sundown, a present-day grappler, the boy Akira, and the robot Cube each receive a self-contained scenario. The medieval knight Oersted waits until those chapters are finished, then binds their survivors into one last castle.

Contact battles and floor traps replace a roaming encounter rate in several of those eras. The HD-2D remake is what finally carried an official English script, decades after the Super Famicom chapters.
