Blocker lemmings and a builder's staircase keep the crowd off the cliff in Lemmings, DMA Design's puzzle published by Psygnosis. Each creature walks until a job, assigned one at a time, digs, builds, or stops the line.
The Amiga original is the famous one. Psygnosis published it in 1991, with the green hair and the doorway exit already the picture players draw from memory.
Nintendo ports came later and carry the same job list. The builder, the blocker, and the cliff are DMA's puzzle, and the ports are how that puzzle reached a console.
